Works Supervisors at CERN

The mission of the works and services supervisors is found in safety rule GSI-WS-1:

Person under the responsibility of the Project Leader, or the organic unit, responsible for the contract who monitors a specific activity in an operation on behalf of CERN.

An operation includes all the works and services executed by one or more operating entities towards the same objective.

Works and services supervisors are trained to their mission and responsibility in the classroom course: Works and services supervisor.

In the BE department, the Safety Unit advises that colleagues who co-ordinate or supervise installation or removal of equipment, preventive and corrective maintenance activities, attend this training by priority order:

• colleagues named as supervisors in prevention plans,
• colleagues who supervise contractors (FSU included),
• colleagues who supervise activities involving other groups,
• colleagues who are declared as Supervisors in the IMPACT request for an activity.
