
The CERN Radiation Protection group has been reviewing the signage used in radiation areas by comparing it with best practice in various European countries. Following this review, the decision was taken to update the signage with new pictograms to warn people about radiation and indicate when a dosimeter must be worn. A color code will also be introduced to give a better visual indication of the radiological risk level.
The new radiation protection signage will be rolled out from 15 March 2021, firstly to all the accessible radiation areas and finally to those that are currently off limits as soon as the access restrictions have been lifted.
The radiation protection rules that determine the classification given to these areas have not changed. The only change is to the signs on display, as shown in the image above.
